I wonder if anyone has any insight on my situation. I’m an Australian non resident who annually receives dividends from my investments shares, I’m not entitled to franked tax credits, as I’m a resident of Thailand. So, that brings me to two questions, will I need to pay tax on my franked shares? Am I now eligible for the franked tax credits? If so, will Thailands tax department pay me here in Thailand?

Hello dear sir, I am watching your videos. I have been to Thailand 4 times. But I didn't like Bangkok and other big cities in Thailand. Bangkok, in particular, is not a place to live. You and other travelers insistently talk about and praise Thailand and Bangkok. This is the wrong attitude. You can only live in small towns in Thailand. Life in big cities is very difficult and It's boring. The climate is bad, there is noise and chaos. But all travelers constantly tell people about Thailand and recommend them to go there. This is very wrong and erroneous behavior.

Tax: Anyone thinking of living or already living in Thailand should strongly reconsider their plans as you may be required to pay Thai tax in addition to tax in your country of origin. Further, It’s very difficult if not impossible to plan on the speculation of WW Tax which, even if not implemented now, may be implemented at some time in the future & will affect many, some seriously. As to the so called tax experts it appears we are being provided with conflicting advice. Worse some are trying to get us involved with questionable financial products. As to obtaining a TIN good luck if you live outside BKK. I hear the going rate is 5,000 baht. Final gripe. It’s disgusting that the rich who can afford the long term visa will be taxed nothing but the average guy will be taxed until it’s painful. Also, taxing expats takes money away from the local Thai community & redirects it to the Thai government (to waste?).

This is what you pay for an apartment in Western-Europe. Makes no sense at all. I paid 5500 THB for a 28m2 new studio near Udom Suk in 2016.

Safety wing is not suitable for long term residents. They will check your stamps to make sure you’re actually a tourist.

Sounds like if you keep your US/UK/Canadian bank account and only use credit cards and ATM cards while in Thailand you don’t pay taxes. You only pay when you move the money into Thailand.

Awesome video Chris and, to me, the tax rules seem fare. If you make some money in Thailand pay tax on it. If you have foreign investments and bring the income into Thailand, hopefully it will be covered under a DTA. You will either pay taxes in your home country or Thailand; but not both. I think I might have heard a loop hole that I like and would need to be verified. That is using your credit card in Thailand is not considered repatriation of funds. So, whatever visa I have, and I maintain a bank account in Thailand to maintain that minimum balance, it sounds like I can use my use my Chase credit card to live off of, like I do in the US, and just pay off that CC monthly (like I do now) with a US bank account and I would never have to worry about being taxed on living expenses. Yeah, I might have to have some pocket change to run around with, but it should be minimal along with the tax implications. The case study I would like an answer for is this: All my retirement accounts in the US is in a Roth account. With a Roth retirement account, you pay all you taxes before the money goes in and when you start pulling money out during retirement, it is tax free. So, once I retire, and start pulling money out of my Roth, it might go into a US bank. Then, if I transfer to a Thai bank, it should be tax free because I already paid tax before the money went into the Roth. I would like to get a conformation on that. Maybe, I would have to pull money out of the Roth and have it go directly to a Thai bank so the source could be proven that tax was already been paid. But like the guy said, this is all in the fine print and would probably have to have a Thai tax attorney to prove it. Great video. It would be nice to have a interview with him once or twice a year and put his name and biz name in the video more so he gets some advertising out of it.

First check if your country has Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) with Kingdom of Thailand, if they do, then you don't have to worry about this, because DTA prevent the same income from being taxed twice. Australia has DTA with Thailand, and age pension is exempted from taxation according to Australian Treaty Series 1989 No 36 with Kingdom of Thailand. Google the treaty online. Article 18 in the treaty says Pensions and annuities 1. Subject to the provisions of Article 19, pensions and annuities paid to a resident of one of the Contracting States shall be taxable only in that State. Don't waste your time and money listening to the expert, because they are here to confuse you and make money from you.

Ridiculous just stay on 90-day visas places in Malaysia Vietnam if you're making a hundred thousand it's easy to set up three houses or three places to live to avoid taxes 17% is ridiculous They do absolutely nothing for the tax money In fact they make things worse this is why you should not feel bad when you see poverty in these countries.. The local governments create their own poverty

don't think you have to worry about paying taxes in Thailand just don't open a bank account.. They can't even run a city let alone trace funds..

BINGO! He said the key phrase! Take the transaction hit and keep your money in your home country. Use the ATM. Only have what is needed for your visa and proof of wealth in your Thai bank account. DO NOT move your money to Thailand for any reason other than that. Take out your monthly expenses via ATM from your home country and live off of that.

I think I will stay less than 180 days. It’s too stressful wondering how much the Thai government will tax. It’s a shame they always target foreigners when they can’t run their country right.

For example, why wouldn't you want a car in the city but wouldn't be without one on Samui? No matter what you do, I'm sure your well-deserved success will continue. 🎉

Great videos mate, on my second 2 week trip to BKK this Thurs 04/07/24 , man do I love this city. I've lived in Bali for over 30 years, KL been there over 20!times, Philippines and Singapore. Nothing compares to Bangkok Thailand. Better than any Asian city I've ever been to. Best food in the world in my opinion.
